Rainbow
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
1975
Favorite tracks: Man On the Silver Mountain, Snake Charmer, Still I'm Sad
Sleeper tracks: Black Sheep of the Family, If You Don't Like Rock 'n Roll
I didn't come across this album until my early 20s. I knew of (and liked) Rainbow songs that I heard on the radio. I liked Blackmore in Deep Purple and I liked Dio's Sabbath and solo stuff. I didn't really get into this record until I started trying to improve my CD collection.
I don't like this album as much as Rising. For one, Cozy Powell isn't drumming on it. It's got some cool guitar work but it sounds like the band isn't a band...more like a bunch of session musicians playing with Blackmore and Dio. I think the Rainbow project took a positive turn after this record. I understand the importance of this record but it doesn't sit high on my list of must have CDs. R.I.P. Ronnie. \m/
