Album 365: Day 200 - Opeth - Heritage

Opeth
Heritage
2011

Favorite tracks: The Devil's Orchard, Slither, Nepenthe
Sleeper tracks: Haxprocess

Quite a shift of philosophy for the band.  A whole, non EP album with no heavy vocals.  The backlash from Opeth fans was pretty intense.  I love this record.  The recording is reminiscent of old 70's prog records.  The songs are great and if the band continued to do albums that sounded like this, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The artwork is also pretty gnarly.  The skulls at the bottom of the tree represent the former members of the band.  There is one face falling from the tree.  That represents the keyboard player who told the band he was leaving after this record.
