I never owned a Joe Jackson record until a week ago. There were the radio hits I was familiar with but I never bothered obtaining the actual albums they came from.
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. Overall, the album was great. It's a bit dated and the production sounds like something that could have come from a 1980s Minneapolis studio (or vice versa I suppose. Maybe David Kershenbaum is the hidden master of new wave pop).
One thing I did notice and should be a lesson to all bands out there: There are some bad pitch issues with Jackson's vocals. I get that it was a style back then but it shows that you need good songs first and singing chops second.
